Drug Orders: For inpatients, drug orders are generated by the healthcare team and sent to the pharmacy directly.
2. Prescription Submission
Location: Hospital Pharmacy or Ward Pharmacy
Process:
Submission: Submit your prescription at the hospital pharmacy or through the ward pharmacy for inpatients.
Verification: The pharmacy staff will verify the prescription or drug order for accuracy, checking for potential drug interactions and ensuring that the medication is appropriate for your condition.
3. Medication Dispensing
Location: Hospital Pharmacy
Process:
Preparation: Pharmacy staff will prepare the medication as per the prescription. This includes measuring, labeling, and packaging the drugs.
Review: Each medication is reviewed to ensure it matches the prescription. This includes checking the dosage, frequency, and patient information.
4. Drug Issuance
Location: Hospital Pharmacy Counter
Process:
Collection: If you are an outpatient, you will receive your medications from the pharmacy counter. Inpatients will have their medications delivered to their respective wards.
Instructions: The pharmacy staff will provide instructions on how to take the medication, including dosage, timing, and any special considerations (e.g., with food, at bedtime).
Counselling: For certain medications, especially new or complex ones, the pharmacist may offer additional counselling to ensure you understand how to use them properly.

Refills: If you need a refill of a prescription, visit the pharmacy with your prescription or refilling instructions. For long-term medications, your healthcare provider will indicate when refills are necessary.
